　グーグルが狙っているのは、グーグルウェーブ上で動作するアプリケーションやツールを、世界中のソフトウエア開発者や企業に開発してもらうことだ。そうすれば、現時点でも十分に多彩な顔を持つ同サービスの実用性はいっそう高まる。さらに同社は、米アップルが携帯電話「iPhone（アイフォーン）」や携帯型プレーヤー「iPod touch（アイポッド・タッチ）」向けに開設した、ゲームや各種アプリのオンライン販売サービス「App Store（アップ・ストア）」と同じように、こうしたアプリを販売するオンラインストアの開設も視野に入れている。

　グーグルウェーブは、豪シドニーを拠点とする60人規模のチームによって開発された。同チームを指揮する同社ソフトウエア・エンジニアリング・マネジャーのラース・ラスムセン氏はBusinessWeek.comに対し、「ストアの開設はほぼ確実だ。多数の開発企業から要望の声が上がっている。収益は分け合う形になりそうだ」と述べている。

アップルのアップ・ストアが同社の携帯機器向けのアプリのみを扱うのに対し、グーグルウェーブのアプリストアは、ノートパソコン、ウェブ対応テレビ、スマートフォンなど、あらゆる機器で動作するアプリを販売すると見られている。グーグルウェーブを利用したり、追加ソフトをダウンロードしたりといったことは、最新のウェブブラウザーを搭載した機器であれば、機種にかかわらず可能だからだ。
